Borders Youth Theatre activities are run by experienced, contracted paid professionals but organised by a group of volunteer Trustees.
Borders Youth Theatre receives a grant from Scottish Borders Council/LIVE Borders to help support specific work across the region. The SBC grant covers around 20% of total annual costs. The rest of the money comes from grants from trusts, other bodies and from local fund-raising.
It is a major task to try to identify and apply for sources of funding.
We try to keep fees as low as possible in order to ensure that access to drama is available for young people from all backgrounds. We have set aside a special fund so that young people having genuine difficulty with fees can apply for assistance to have fees reduced or even waived completely.

Performance productions, particularly the intensive production weeks, cost several thousand pounds. This means that substantial fundraising and grant fund applications must be carried out to support these projects.
Relatively low cost performances by local groups can be staged without additional funding – if the costs of the venue, additional director time, props, costumes etc are covered by ticket sales, raffle etc…
If local groups wish to stage more expensive productions, then local grant funding and sponsorship is necessary.
The Borders Youth Theatre Trustees are always very appreciative of help received by parents and other volunteers. Borders Youth Theatre has no specific base so it is especially helpful when local young people and parents organise local fund-raising events. Even small scale events help – it all adds up.
