Borders Youth Theatre was established in 1989 as part of the first ‘Borders Festival’. Since then Borders Youth Theatre have run weekly drama workshops across the region and staged a wide range of performance projects at various locations in the Scottish Borders. The 2017 summer project - Delving Deep – was reprised in 2018 for the WW1 centenary at the request of Archeology Scotland. The 2018 summer project A Tale of Beatrix Potter was enjoyed by old and young alike at the beautiful Scottish Borders locations; Paxton House, Traquair and The Haining. 2019 will be the sixth consecutive year that many of the Borders Youth Theatre seniors have also participated in the annual National Theatre Connections (NTC) programme. NTC offers Borders Youth Theatre the opportunity to perform plays, commissioned by the National Theatre, on professional stages including: Lyceum – Edinburgh, Eden Court - Inverness and Traverse – Edinburgh.
